Who's the Daddy
Wong Ping
Nov 11 - Dec 23, 2017

Interstitial presents Who’s the Daddy a site-specific installation by Hong Kong based artist Wong Ping. Through video, sculpture, and installation elements Who’s the Daddy “combines the crass and the colorful to mount a discourse around repressed sexuality, personal sentiments, and political limitations.” Simultaneously humorous and dark in its execution, Ping's newest animation depicts a personal narrative of sexuality, birth, and fatherhood.

The gallery is made to feel smaller and more constrained with painted black walls and low black ceiling. The viewer is greeted by Ping’s vibrant animation upon entering the gallery where childlike playground equipment functions as seating. Multiple baby dolls wearing VR headsets are scattered through the space while sculptural works of fetus’ submerged in cereal hang overhead. Who’s the Daddy functions as a personal window into the pressure and sexual repression of the male identity, questioning the impact of these social issues on a generation dependent and immersed in technology.
