Exploring color design in response to gendered roles in the decorative arts, artist Jessica Dolence develops a surreal domestic setting within the gallery. Her installation, The Blue Room, consists of print matter, individual video works, and projections of animated wallpaper, melding contemporary Internet-based aesthetics with traditional Victorian design.

Dolence invites the viewer to step inside a liminal environment, not quite contemporary, not quite traditional, a space that is beautiful but also charged with ambiguity. By wedding actual and virtual reality, _The Blue Room_ plays on themes of wonder, nostalgia, and femininity, as they were experienced during the 19th century and as they are experienced today.
